DESCRIPTION:BASIC NEUROLOGICAL ASSESSMENT –– CARLO DIVITA \nFRIDAY JULY 17th\, 2020 \nAbout the Course \nAlthough this course is centered on Basic Neurological Assessment and therefore aims to provide it’s attendees with a greater depth of understanding of why and how specific assessment components are undertaken as part of the role of Occupational Therapists working with individuals with a neurological condition; it also aims to provide a practical understanding of what the assessment results represent and how they will link to Occupational Therapy intervention. \nThe course will cover: \n– The basis of why Neurological Assessment is important in Occupational Therapy practice \n– What components make up a thorough Occupational Therapy Initial Neurological Assessment \n– How to implement an Initial Neurological Assessment including practical application of techniques \n– The analysis of assessment findings\, as they relate to Occupational Therapy practice \n– How to link assessment findings to intervention \nOn completion of the course\, attendees will be armed with the practical knowledge of how to complete a Basic Neurological Assessment and how to connect it to Occupational Therapy practice. \nThe course will include opportunities for observation and practice of assessment techniques and learning through a range of mediums including audio-visual\, group discussion and in-vivo practice. \nThe course is aimed at Occupational Therapists who have either limited experience in Neurological Assessment or would like to develop greater confidence in this area. \nAbout the Presenter \nSince graduating from Curtin University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy\, Carlo developed his skills in Neurological Assessment working at Royal Perth Hospital and Fiona Stanley Hospital in the areas of acute neurosurgery and neurology\, stroke rehabilitation and acquired brain injury rehabilitation. Margaret is a sought after presenter who will engage\, inform and entertain participants with a “hands on” approach. \nLiving in a world of continual change is a reality and being able to manage it effectively can be very difficult. However\, with the right mindset and practical strategies you can overcome fear\, anxiety and helplessness associated with change and learn to positively embrace it. \nThis session is designed to grow your capacity to manage change in the workplace through discussion of the dynamics of change and identification of strategies to self-manage and support others. \nThe 1/2 day workshop is interactive and will enable participants to readily apply what they learn within their practice. Please email our PD Coordinator Carolyn Earle c.earle@bigpond.com if you would like to be added to the waitlist for any cancellations\n  \nINTRODUCTION TO THE HIERARCHIC DEMENTIA SCALE-REVISED (HDS-R) AND THE POSSIBILITY ORIENTED APPROACH TO CARE PLANNING \nThe workshop is aimed at health professionals who care for people living with dementia\, and contains a very brief introduction about dementia before centering on the HDS-R\, what it is\, how to use it and how to turn the outcomes into a meaningful care plan for someone with dementia. It is highly interactive and the participants will leave with copies of the PowerPoint and the Possibility Oriented Approach manual\, plus some other resources. \nWorkshop objectives are: \n\nUnderstand the underpinning theory of the HDS-R\nDemonstrate ability to assess people with dementia using the HDS-R\nCombine the results of HDS-R assessments with a Possibility Oriented Approach to provide person-centered interventions.\n\nJackie Reynolds who is presenting this course\, is an OT with over 18 years clinical experience. She has previously spent 5 years working for a major Victorian hospital\, however much of her experience has been in aged care\, with 12 years in the field. As well as earning a Cert IV in Dementia practice: Jackie earned her Cert IV in Training and Assessment\, and has provided workshops throughout the state for Baptistcare\, on risk enablement and the Montessori approach. She also previously worked at Bendigo TAFE\, delivering the Cert III Therapy Assistant course.
