SUMMARY:Mental Health Skills 2022
DESCRIPTION:Friday 1st April 2022 \nPresented by : James Tannenbaum \nThis workshop is designed for therapists wanting to understand more about applying mental health skills to therapy. It is both a didactic and experiential workshop designed to give participants an overview of a range of skills based on current cognitive behaviour therapies and mindfulness. The workshop includes specific Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) concepts that may be practiced immediately and implemented with a wide range of clients. \nDBT is a transdiagnostic therapy with a strong behavioural focus. It has some favourable approaches including a specific orientation around increasing skillful behaviour whilst reducing unhelpful behaviour to achieve goals. It also has a structure which assists therapist to learn and implement the principles with fidelity. \nDBT is also integrative and aligns well with occupational therapy practice. \nTopics to be covered include: \n\nMindfulness\nCoping skills\nEmotion regulation\n\nParticipants can expect to undertake mindfulness and awareness practices as well as self-reflection exercises that may in turn be applied with clients. Participants will receive a comprehensive slide pack with supplementary information as well as references for further exploration. \nAbout the Presenter  \nJames Tannenbaum is an Occupational Therapist with extensive mental health experience\, currently with an inpatient focus. James is currently a senior occupational therapist providing group based Dialectical Behaviour Therapy at Perth Clinic\, which is a 100-bed private psychiatric hospital where he has been since 2016. \nPrior experience includes mental health trainer at Richmond Wellbeing\, training staff and community workers in recovery oriented practice as well as trauma-informed care. DESCRIPTION:After the previous success of both the basic and complex course Sandi Lightfoot from the University of Sydney has confirmed to return to Perth and repeat these courses in April 2022. \nSandi Lightfoot is an OT and service manager for a home visiting modification service covering the local government areas of South West Sydney. She has worked for the Universities of Sydney and Western Sydney since 1987. Her area of expertise includes environmental modifications\, occupational performance and outcome measures for ensuing that clients’ reach their maximum potential. She is currently involved with the honors panel for OT Australia\, has developed publications with NSW Health for safe design and aged care facilities\, and has participated in numerous working parties and panels related to service development for HACC Home Modifications Services\, Universal and Adaptable Design.
