DESCRIPTION:Presented by Lisa Scott \nWe are delighted to have secured Lisa Scott from Melbourne to present this exciting course. Lisa is an experienced Occupational Therapists with over 25 years experience. \nThe areas covered in this workshop are :- Theoretical Models\, Assessment\, Hand Development\,Pre-writing and drawing skills\,Intervention Strategies andSpecific Programs. \nThis 2-day workshop investigates elements of handwriting\, drawing and tool usage for kindergarten and primary school children. Handwriting difficulties are one of the primary reasons for a referral to an occupational therapist. Handwriting is also one of the most complex tasks in which children engage. It requires skills in the areas of cognition\, visuo-spatial\, language fine motor and kinaesthetic development. Research has indicated that children who can write well perform at a higher level academically. There has also been correlation in the literature with regard to proficient handwriting and children’s performance in the areas of increased concentration\, improved self-confidence and self-esteem\, as well as the ability for children to express themselves creatively. \nThe workshop aims to be practical in nature\, providing participants with: \n\nAn overview of normal development of pencil skills/drawing/handwriting\nAn overview of classroom handwriting expectations\nDevelopment of pencil/graphomotor skills\nAn understanding or overview of various tools and classroom/clinical observations that may assist in identification of the various areas of difficulty\, including:\nClassroom set-up\nHandwriting posture\nDevelopment of pencil/graphomotor skills\nWriting tool use\nWriting speed and legibility and\nWritten content\nA clinical reasoning framework to determine the direction for intervention for these children.\nThe workshop will also provide participants with opportunities to develop numerous strategies to assist emergent writers and those in later years with continuing handwriting difficulties.\n\nTowards Functional Writing: Fine Motor Skills And Handwriting For Children 2-12\nDate Friday August 30th and Saturday August 31st\, 2019\nTime 09:00 – 17:00 daily \nVenue Pagoda Conference Room\, Pagoda Resort\, 112 Melville Parade\, Como\nCost Early Bird before 30/6/19\nMember $400 \nRural Remote member $300 \nStudent $200 \nNon-members $750 \nStandard Rate after 30/6/19 \nMember $500 \nRural Remote member $350 \nStudent $250 \nNon-members $750 \nRefreshments Welcome coffee /tea\, morning tea\, lunch and afternoon tea provided daily \nThis course is currently full.
