SUMMARY:Taking the Coaching Approach 2022
DESCRIPTION:About the course: \nThe ‘Taking a coaching approach’ workshop offers an additional developmental tool for those who work directly with people. It is built on a style of communication and motivation aimed at unlocking a person’s potential to maximise their performance. Rather than ‘telling\, directing and instructing’ the coaching approach aims at developing internal or self-motivation – aiming at the ‘inner person’ rather than external motivators. It is aimed at helping a person learn rather than teaching them. \nThe aim of the workshop is to provide coaching principles and processes and practice sessions to consolidate within people helpers a methodology that taps into the potential that exists within the client or patient. The methodology focuses on questions that raise awareness (what is happening around the client or patient; raise self-awareness (what they are experiencing personally) and to raise responsibility (take responsibility for their actions and increasing ownership and accountability). \nPractical coaching principles and processes are demonstrated\, elaborated and practiced within the workshop. The workshop involves two full practice sessions of combining the coaching principles\, coaching process (the GROW model) and the listening and speaking skills of the coaching approach. \nA full set of support notes are provided for each participant that covers the principles\, processes and the listening and speaking of the coaching approach. \nTarget Audience \nThe coaching approach can be applied to any\, and all\, human interaction. SUMMARY:PRPP - Assessment Course
DESCRIPTION:THIS COURSE IS NOW FULL\, IF YOU WISH TO BE PLACED ON THE WAITING LIST IN CASE OF A CANCELLATION OVER THE WEEKEND PLEASE EMAIL OUR PD CO-ORDINATOR \nCAROLYN EARLE ON C.EARLE@BIGPOND.COM  \nPresented by – Dr Chris Chapparo and Dr Judy Ranka. \nThe PRPP (Perceive Recall Plan Perform) Assessment is a standardised\, client centred\, criterion referenced\, occupational therapy assessment of occupational performance. It is used with clients of any age\, gender\, diagnosis\, or cultural background whose performance is compromised by difficulties with the cognitive demands of occupations. \nThe assessment yields information about performance mastery and cognitive strategy application behaviours. Strategy application behaviours assessed align with dimensions of attention and perception (P)\, learning\, memory and recall (R)\, planning\, decision-making and judgment (P)\, and the capacity to act on decisions and follow-through with plans (P). \nFindings from the PRPP Assessment are then used to plan PRPP intervention where the focus is on developing strategy application behaviours required by everyday tasks and to improve task performance mastery. The PRPP assessment is used internationally and has been translated into several languages. It has established validity in a variety of practice domains including neurology\, mental health\, learning disabilities\, autism\, chronic pain\, HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders\, and dementia.  \nObjectives  \nDescribe the occupational therapy\, neurosciences and educational foundation of the assessment\, and its psychometric properties  \nAssess and score task performance mastery from videotaped examples of client performances using Stage One of the PRPP Assessment  \nAssess and score cognitive strategy application behaviours applied to tasks on dimensions of perceive\, recall\, plan and perform from videotaped examples of client performances using Stage Two of the PRPP Assessment.  \nWrite specific\, measurable mastery and strategy application goals for clients assessed.  \nUse the PRPP Assessment as a client centred outcome measure of occupational performance.  \nUnderstand the implications of assessment findings for occupational therapy intervention.  \n\n\n\nPRPP Assessment Course ( 5 day course )\n\n\nDate\nMonday 23rd May – Friday 27th May\, 2022 \n08:30 – 16:30\n\n\nVenue\nPagoda Conference Room\, Pagoda Resort\, 112 Melville Parade\, Como\n\n\nCost \n  \n  \n \nEarly bird before 31/3/22 \nMember $1050.00 \nRural/remote member $850.00 \nNon-members $2075.00 \nStudent $550.00 \nStandard rate after 31/3/22 \nMember $1350.00 \nRural/remote member $1000.00 \nNon-members $2075.00 \nStudent $650.00\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRefreshments\nWelcome Tea/Coffee\, Morning tea\, lunch and afternoon tea will be provided.\n\n\n\nBook Online\nIf you prefer booking offline\, you can use the registration form below. \n**PD Registration Form 2021 \nPay via invoice options are available using the ‘Book Online’ function below. SUMMARY:Pain from an OT perspective - 2022
DESCRIPTION:THIS COURSE IS NOW FULL. PLEASE REGISTER YOUR INTEREST FOR THE WAITLIST OR REPEAT COURSE TO OUR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CO-ORDINATOR\, CAROLYN EARLE ON C.EARLE@BIGPOND.COM \n \nAbout the course :- \nChronic pain management is a major and growing challenge for patients\, healthcare professionals and the global healthcare system. Pain science can be quite disheartening as a topic – as there are no magic bullets or quick fixes in treating chronic pain. This can make engaging with this condition difficult\, with the result that occupational therapists might choose to avoid exploring this area. Of all the approaches used in the treatment of chronic pain\, occupational therapy shows some of the most promising results but remains relatively unknown to the public and other healthcare practitioners.  \nThis workshop aims to introduce pain science and unveil the role of occupational therapy in chronic pain rehabilitation. The goal is to take the science and help occupational therapists translate it into tangible\, clinical concepts and tools. It is suitable for new or experienced therapists wishing to gain a broader understanding in this area. We will be reviewing the most recent and relevant approaches and technologies for the care and management of chronic pain. Topics to be covered include:  \nPain Science Made Simple Learn about the basic neuroscience of pain\, and the interrelationship between physiological\, psychological\, environmental and occupational processes in pain perception.  \nPain Assessment in Occupational Therapy Practice Gain an overview of how to assess patients with pain (acute and chronic)\, and using assessment findings guide diagnostic\, rehabilitation and occupation-related care plans  \nInterventions for Common Clinical Pain Syndromes Explore the different approaches to treat chronic pain\, current available evidence on their efficacy and relevance in various occupational therapy settings. Discover how occupational therapists can implement effective interventions through therapeutic neuroscience education\, psychological approaches\, functional rehabilitation\, soft tissue therapy and assistive technology.  \nThis workshop will be delivered in a casual manner with inspiring recovery stories and short gentle yoga breaks (to make your experience as pain free as possible). You will leave with a better foundational knowledge and understanding in this emerging area of practice for occupational therapists.  \nAbout the Presenter :- \nThis workshop will be presented by Ian Cheok who is a senior occupational therapist at LifeWorks Occupational Therapy and TADWA\, where he focuses on chronic pain care\, mental health\, and the use of immersive technologies such as virtual reality in clinical practice. \nIan graduated from Curtin University with a Master of Occupational Therapy degree\, receiving the Head of the School Award and Outstanding Mentor Award.  Additionally\, he has received training from The Neuro Orthopaedic Institute\, and is currently completing his postgraduate studies in chronic pain management with McGill University. \nPrior to his role in occupational therapy\, Ian was a Computer Science graduate from the University of Western Australia\, and had worked for 16+ years in the areas of user experience design and software engineering. \nCourse details :- \nLocation: Pagoda Conference Room\, Pagoda Resort\, 112 Melville Parade\, Como \nDate: Friday 25th February\, 2022 \nTime: 8.00am – 16.00pm \nTopic: Pain from an OT perspective \nPresenter: Ian Cheok \nCost: Early Bird before 25/12/21 \nMember $200 \nRural/remote member $150 \nNon-member $395 \nStudent $100 \nStandard rate after 25/12/21 \nMember $250 \nRural/remote member $185 \nNon-member $395 \nStudent $120 \nBook online\nIf you prefer booking offline\, you can use the registration form below :- \n**PD Registration Form 2021 \nPay via invoice options are available using the ‘Book Online’ function below. SUMMARY:AAIMH WA Endorsement Program
DESCRIPTION:Date: Tuesday 15th February\nTime: 6.30pm\nPresenter: Anne Lowagie\nZoom details: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89620742703 \nWe know that children’s wellbeing goes hand in hand with the wellbeing of their family. Safe\, stable and nurturing relationships with caring adults are the building blocks of healthy development and good mental health. Professionals in the early childhood and family field play a key role in promoting and supporting those all-important foundational relationships. \nOTs working with babies\, young children and their families\, particularly those facing chronic adversity\, know this work can be challenging. It requires a complex set of skills\, high levels of professional development and commitment. This means that practitioners also need access to quality training opportunities and reflective experiences that support them in their work. \nIn 2020\, the West Australian Branch of the Australian Association for Infant Mental Health (AAIMH WA) introduced Infant Mental Health (IMH) Endorsement®\, a workforce development and support system. An internationally recognised credential\, IMH Endorsement demonstrates a professional’s experiences and competency in the infant\, early childhood and family field and their commitment to a reflective\, relational approach to their work. Growing evidence indicates that endorsed professionals are better prepared to support the foundational early development of babies and young children\, in the context of their caregiving relationships. \nAnne will discuss this program with us and how it can support us to work with young children and their families.
