AIMS AND LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Attendees will be able to:

– Complete a home environment assessment independently, assessing a client in all areas of the home for modifications.

– Understand the theoretical principles and models that underpin successful environmental modification.

– Apply clinical reasoning to recommend the most suitable intervention for a client in their home (including grab rails, ramps, handrails and bathroom modifications).

– Know and apply Australian Standards related to accessibility to home modification prescription.

– Measure a person and their environment to prescribe safe, functional and beneficial home modifications.

– Complete concept drawings of basic home modifications including accurate and necessary information to allow installers/builders to correctly carry out the required modifications.

Attendees are required to bring a tape measure.

Minimum 5m, but ideally up to 8m and a combination square/rampometer

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS

BLAKE KENNEETT

Blake is an OT specialising in home modifications and equipment prescription, with a focus on supporting older adults to live safely, comfortably, and independently in their own homes. Blake has worked at TADWA since 2020, providing occupational therapy services across the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP), Home Care Packages, and now the Support at Home program. He works closely with clients to identify practical, personalised solutions that improve accessibility, enhance daily functioning, and build confidence within their living environments. Through comprehensive assessment and a client-centred approach, Blake recommends home modifications and assistive equipment that promote safety, maximise independence, and support people to remain living at home for longer.

MICHAEL PAXTON

Michael is an experienced Senior OT who has been practising since 2018. In his current role as a Senior OT at TADWA, he specialises in assistive technology prescription and complex home modifications within the NDIS space, supporting people to improve their independence, safety, participation, and quality of life. He brings a person-centred, practical, and evidence-informed approach to his work, along with strong clinical judgement, communication skills, and collaborative practice.
