MEMORY STRATEGIES FOLLOWING ABI – GILL SMITH
MONDAY 31st AUGUST
Gill Smith has over twenty five years experience as an Occupational Therapist she has worked in a variety of settings including out-patients and community based rehabilitation both in Perth and England, with adults aged 16+ who have a variety of impairments. In the past she has developed and delivered tutorials to Hallam and Edith Cowan University Occupational Therapy schools.
This workshop is aimed at Occupational Therapists with experience of working in this clinical area and will cover –
- The use of information processing model of cognition to describe and understand the skills needed for memory
- Encoding, storage and retrieval outlined with ideas about how to identify and manage problems at each stage
- Categories / memory types described with examples of application in everyday life
- Factors that impact on everybody’s effective memory with ideas to improve memory function
- Assessment tools and their use
- Rehabilitation principles and strategies for impairments of each skill and memory category will be revisited and explored with case examples used to illustrate points
